Tommy Phillips earned his fourth major event victory of the young season Sunday when he drove his Tigerflow/K&N Engineering backed Corvette Roadster to the victory in Super Gas.  Phillips, who doubled up at the IHRA Nitro Jam event in San Antonio (winning Quick Rod and Super Rod) and won Super Comp at the recent NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, earned the Super Gas crown at SRCA Dragstrip with a final round victory over Chris Burrell.  In the six rounds of the event, Phillips used the strength of reaction times varying just .016 (from .002 to .018) to propel him to victory.

In the final, Phillips and Burrell left together, with Burrell’s .017 getting a minute edge on Phillips’ .018.  Phillips would win the battle at the finish line, however, with a 10.070 to Burrell’s 10.084 on the altitude adjusted 10.05 Super Gas index.

Tommy Phillips also competed in Super Comp at the event, where he advanced to round three before falling to eventual semi-finalist Tim Parker.  He preceded his Sunday success with a runner-up finish in Saturday’s Long Motorsports Super Comp Shootout.

“This was a good win for the Tigerflow/K&N team,” said Phillips.  “I’m really happy with the combination in both cars right now.  We’ve had a great start to the season, and I feel like we’re capable of continuing at this pace.”

Phillips will travel from Grand Bend to Topeka, KS for this weekend’s NHRA Summer Nationals.  Heartland Park Topeka has been a venue of much success for Phillips throughout his illustrious career, including five of his twenty-two NHRA national event victories.  He earned the Super Gas crown at Topeka in 2009, defending his title from the previous season when he nearly doubled by winning Super Gas and taking runner-up honors in Super Comp.

“Topeka has been good to me in the past,” said Phillips.  “Hopefully we can combine our recent momentum with our strong history at the facility and have another good performance.”

In addition to major sponsors Tigerflow and K&N Engineering, Phillips wished to recognize several associate marketing partners for their role in his continued success.  Those sponsors include CBS Arcsafe, Art and Randy Zunker of B’yond Reason Racing, Tracy Dennis and Sunset Racecraft, Robert and Wynette Hudgins of Lee-A Incorporated (Clyde, TX), Hoosier Racing Tire, Hughes Performance, Lucas Oil Products, the staff and customers of TNT Supercars, as well as Duane and Heidi Robison, and Brett Patterson.
